The book illustrates and analyzes more than 80 projects by 50 well-known architects. While acknowledging the existence of local styles, Philip Jodidio--editor of a prestigious French art journal--emphasizes the global nature of architecture today. The selection of buildings here is truly multicultural, from the new Hong Kong airport and Kyoto's train station to daringly designed homes, schools, museums, even contrasting styles of crematoria (one each from Germany and Japan). With new "space age" materials and very large sums of public and private money, today's architects experiment in creating innovative spaces in which cultural, religious, and other more mundane events can be experienced. The buildings often seem ends in themselves: a $10 million museum in Seoul houses just two Rodin sculptures in a light-filled, inspirational environment; the Jewish Museum in Berlin deliberately opened empty, with no collection of any sort, the dark, jagged architecture sending its own message. The book's international flavor is enhanced by the practice of the publisher, Taschen, to offer text in three languages: English, German, and French. This presents design difficulties that are handled well, with text boxes, alternating triple columns, and restful light-blue "breathing spaces."

Điểm dừng của phía Nam Lĩnh vực bất động sản du lịch, là một thị trường khá mới mẻ ở Việt Nam. Tuy nhiên, điều này cũng có nghĩa là thị trường này ở Việt Nam đang rất tiềm năng. Thực tế, điểm qua bức tranh phát triển chung của ngành du lịch Việt Nam có thể thấy cơ hội đầu tư vào ngành này rất lớn. Năm 2008, Việt Nam thu hút được 4,2 triệu lượt khách quốc tế, đạt doanh thu 3 tỉ USD. Trong năm 2009, gần 4 triệu lượt khách quốc tế cũng đã vào Việt Nam. Chương trình hành động của ngành du lịch cho biết, mục tiêu đến năm 2010, Việt Nam sẽ đón 5,5 - 6 triệu khách quốc tế với doanh thu 4 – 4,5 tỉ USD, đóng góp 5,3% GDP cả nước, tạo 1,4 triệu việc làm. Dự kiến 10 năm tới, Việt Nam sẽ thu hút khoảng 7-8 triệu du khách mỗi năm. Sự phát triển mạnh mẽ này đã đặt ra nhu cầu không chỉ có thêm khách sạn mà còn là các khu nghỉ dưỡng có chất lượng tại các trung tâm du lịch, nhằm đáp ứng nhu cầu nghỉ dưỡng cao cấp của khách du lịch quốc tế và cả những người có thu nhập cao tại Việt Nam. Và tiềm năng này đang được các doanh nghiệp hiện thực hoá khi rất nhiều dự án biệt thự, căn hộ nghỉ dưỡng đang được nhiều doanh nghiệp tăng tốc đầu tư ở các bãi biển đẹp của cả nước.  Nếu như Đà Nẵng được xem là khu vực đầu tư bất động sản nghỉ dưỡng lý tưởng ở dãi bờ biển dọc miền Trung, thì Phan Thiết lại đang ngày càng được hoàn thiện để xứng danh là thủ phủ resort ở phía Nam. Đặc biệt gần đây, khi cơ sở hạ tầng, hệ thống giao thông đang được nhà nước tích cực triển khai làm cho Phan Thiết đang dần trở thành một điểm đến hấp dẫn. Những tuyến đường sắt cao tốc Bắc - Nam, đường cao tốc Dầu Giây - Phan Thiết nối với tuyến đường TP.HCM - Long Thành - Dầu Giây, đang đưa Phan Thiết gần lại với TP.HCM - một trung tâm kinh tế lớn của cả nước khiến bất động sản du lịch khu vực này ngày càng nóng.
